April 7, 2015—Employees from the Houston office of Crown Relocations visited Lee Elementary School on April 6 to celebrate their newly formed Adopt-a-School partnership with the CFISD campus.
CFISD’s Adopt-a-School program pairs schools with community and business partners to utilize the resources of the community to strengthen and enrich the quality of education for students.
Crown, which employs a workforce of 5,000 worldwide and 30 in its Houston office near Jersey Village, sought out the school adoption to align with the company’s culture of corporate responsibility.
“It’s part of our fabric, not only here in Houston but worldwide,” said Greg Donovan, Crown Relocations Houston general manager. “We are all about trying to better the communities in which we serve.”
The adoption marks the first formal partnership for Lee, according to Principal Tonya Goree.
“I think it will mean a lot to the staff, students and parents,” Goree said. “When you have community involvement, it says a lot about your campus. We’re excited about not just the financial aspect of the partnership, but seeing our students aspire to what the company is doing. Some of them may want to be entrepreneurs, drivers, etc. Lee has a lot to offer for this partnership. It’s going to be great.”
To kick off the relationship, Donovan announced that Crown would provide snacks and water to all Lee students taking STAAR assessments the week of April 20.
“Our employees are good people. They enjoy looking for ways to help out,” he said. “We want to be involved with mentoring, teacher appreciation and other opportunities. I look forward to bringing people over to help out.”
